Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Overview

APNs have earned master's degrees in nursing and work in advanced roles such as Nurse Practitioner (NP); Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS); and Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM).

These expert practitioners have the ability to influence the quality of patient care by focusing on process improvement and patient outcomes.

Function as liaison between Nursing and other departments
Serve as expert resource to entire patient care team
Requires 3-5 years experience as staff nurse before moving to APN role
Requires master's degree
Average pay: $80,000 per year
