Clinical Nurse Specialist Nurse Positions

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Overview

Considered expert nurses, CNSs hold master's degrees in many different nursing specialties. They assist RNs and serve as a valuable resource for all consulting health professionals when difficult nursing problems arise.

Five general duties make up a CNS's daily routine:

Clinical practice
Teaching
Research
Consulting
Management

Additionally, CNSs have the ability to influence the quality of patient care by focusing on process improvement and patient outcomes.

Function as liaison between Nursing and other departments
Serve as expert resource to entire patient care team
Requires 3-5 years experience as staff nurse before moving to APN role
Requires master's degree
Average pay: $80,000 per year
